Empowering Digital Education for Migrant Communities: Highlights from the IIDEMIC Workshop in Poznań
In July 2024, a transformative workshop took place at WSB Merito University in Poznań as part of the IIDEMIC project, which focuses on creating inclusive, digital education for migrant communities in Kenya and Somalia. This workshop, organized over five days, brought together 24 academic staff members from partner universities. Its primary aim was to build skills in digital course creation, using innovative methodologies tailored to the needs of diverse learners.
Participants engaged in sessions covering essential aspects of online course development, such as defining learning outcomes, instructional design, and creating multimedia content. Led by industry experts, the workshop balanced theoretical insights with practical exercises, enhancing participants’ skills in empathy mapping, video presentation, interactive quiz creation, and feedback mechanisms. Additionally, cross-institutional groups identified and addressed potential challenges in the educational materials, ensuring that content aligns with migrant learners’ unique needs.
Beyond skill-building, the workshop fostered strong collaboration among team members, setting the stage for ongoing teamwork across countries. By the workshop’s conclusion, participants were awarded completion certificates, signifying their readiness to implement digital education innovations. This impactful event has equipped educators with the tools to create accessible and engaging courses, embodying IIDEMIC’s mission of inclusive digital education.
