The ERASMUS+ CBHE IIDEMIC Joint Progress Seminar, held at the serene North Coast Beach Hotel in Kikambala, Mombasa, was a highly successful event. It brought together leading academics, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss, strategize, and review advancements in educational initiatives for migrant communities. Moderated by Dr. Marguerite Miheso, the seminar served as an important platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.
Seminar Highlights:
\u2022 Project Overview & Vision \u2013 Dr. Adelheid Bwire, the project coordinator, provided an overview on the IIDEMIC project’s objectives, progress, and long-term impact on migrant education.
\u2022 Project Progress: Partner coordinators from KU, DPU, MU, WSB, MMUST, and RSU presented updates on their work packages (WP) and milestones achieved in the IIDEMIC project.
\u2022 Stakeholder Engagement \u2013 Experts such as Darius Ogutu Mogaka (State Department for University Education & Research), Gladys Kiyapyap (Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government), and Philemon Misoy (Windle International Kenya) shared insights on policies, education services, and sustainability in refugee education.
\u2022 Cultural Exchange: One of the seminar’s highlights was the \u201cLet Us Share Our Cultures\u201d session, led by Ahmed Said Mohamud and Rose Shikuri, where participants had the opportunity to learn from each other\u2019s diverse cultural backgrounds.
\u2022 Workshops & Networking: Engaging workshops on module development (WP3) and e-learning strategies provided practical solutions to support project sustainability. The networking sessions encouraged collaboration among stakeholders to share challenges and solutions.
\u2022 Team Building: The final day featured a cultural excursion exploring the rich heritage of Coastal Kenya, fostering unity and strengthening relationships among participants.
